ARCHITECTURAL SYMPHONY
From the History of Palaces and Mansions
7 days/6 nights
In comparison with Amsterdam,
London, Paris and Moscow, Saint Petersburg is a very young city. The
intention of Czar Peter I was to create a new city merging the features of
various world capitals: European and Asian, Eastern and Western. The city
would be multinational and multi-confessional.
The architectural ideas of the Russian and foreign masters who designed
the city, followed the tendencies of great European styles and at the same
time stayed within the visions of Peter the Great.
From the very beginning, Saint Petersburg was a place where Russian
aristocrats were able to establish their social standing through their
posessions. The life of the imperial
court and noble families was characterized by unprecedented wealth and
exquisite magnificence. This is seen in both the memoirs of their contemporaries and in the
architectural style of the numerous palaces and
mansions in Saint Petersburg.
This tour will be of interest for those who are fond of history and
