New Arena (Ice Palace)

Built for the 2000 World Ice Hockey Championship, the New Arena is the most modern and technically equipped sports and concert venue in Russia. Seating 14000 people, the New Arena is now used for concerts and sports competitions such as ice hockey games, figure skating, tennis,  basketball, boxing, ballroom dancing. The venue has VIP boxes, a restaurant (250 seats), bars, shops, a terrace-restaurant overlooking the arena, fitness center, bowling, billiards, Internet-cafe etc.


"Jubileiny" Sports Palace

    Built in 1967-1968, the Jubileiny was a gift from the Trade Union Federation to the town in connection with the 50th anniversary of the Soviet power. The building is 94 meters in diameter, with an accommodation capacity of 6000 people. The palace fits perfectly into the architectural ensemble of the city district. Since its construction the Jubileiny greatly conributed to the development of sports in Russia: figure skating, ice hockey, basketball, volley ball and other sports. The world famous figure skating school based in the Jubileiny has trained a great number of champions.

 

Kirov Stadium

Located on Krestovsky Island, Kirov Stadium is one of the biggest in Russia, it seats 80 000 people. The stadium was constructed in 1932-50 (architects: Nikolsky, Kashin-Linde, Stepanov) in the hollow of a man-made hill. From the top stands one can enjoy the magnificent view of the Gulf of Finland. Seats for the public are on the inside slopes of the amphitheater. On the outside slopes there are 18 staircases and ramps. The front staircase goes into the main path of the nearby Victory Park. Kirov is the home stadium for the "Dynamo" football team playing in the Russian First League.

 

Petrovsky Stadium

    Stadium "Petrovsky" is named after the small island in the delta of the Neva where it is located in the very center of St.Petersburg, a 15 minute walk from the Hermitage. "Petrovsky" is one of the major sports venues in the city, with an accommodation capacity of 23000 people. On the threshold of the Goodwill Games' 94 the stadium was reconstructed, the lighting was refurbished and the heating was installed under the playing field. "Petrovsky" is the home stadium for the local football team "Zenith" which plays in the Russian Premiere League and in the European cups. The stadium is popular among the townspeople for its cosiness, good location and the numerous sports clubs attached to it. "Petrovsky" is open to the public 7 days a week; it is not only a major sports center of St.Petersburg but also a cultural one for it often hosts rock festivals and pop concerts.

    Sports & Concert Complex "Peterburgsky" (SCC) - is one of the largest indoor stadiums in Europe. It was built in 1979, and is 193 meters in diameter, 40 meters high, and has a capacity of 25 thousand spectators. The construction is unique not only because of its size, but also because of the many events that are held within the complex. It has always been a favorite place for holding major sporting events, such as national and international competitions in football, figure skating, volleyball, basketball, etc. In addition, musical concerts, international exhibitions and fashion shows are also held there. SCC is the largest indoor construction in St. Petersburg, it holds the main hall - 10 000 square meters, lobby - 3500 sq. meters, conference-hall, press-center, communications center, bars and cafes, which allow the organization of events on the highest international level. Traditionally SCC "Petersburgsky" hosts the ATP Tour "St. Petersburg Open" Tennis Tournament.

 


Sights to see
• The Cruiser "Aurora"

Branch of the Central Naval Museum. The legendary cruiser is a symbol of Great October Socialist Revolution. On board of this unique floating museum there is the Revolution-related exhibition containing some 500 units.
