By bus

Numerous ferries leave for Sweden once a week on Monday, for Germany once a week on Wednesday, and for Finland three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. There is also a ferry to Tallinn, Estonia. The journeys take about 14 hours; overnight cabins are available. Ferries leave from the Sea Passenger Ship Terminal on Vasilyevsky Island.

• Winter Palace

One of city's oldest buildings, former permanent residence of Russian Tsars, now is a part of the Hermitage Museum. The museum's collection numbers over 3 million items - painting, sculptures, applied art, archeological finds.
